Sukhatme National Award in Statistics
To recognize the outstanding contribution made by the individuals in terms of high-quality research work, to improve the system of official statistics in general and to develop innovative methods for solving the problems encountered while undertaking sample surveys, developing data management system, data integration etc. in particular.
Eligibility
(i) All Indian Nationals without distinction of race, occupation, position and gender are eligible for the award.
(ii) For "Sukhatme National Award in Statistics", the nominee/ applicant should be at least 45 years of age as on 31st December of the financial year in which award is announced.
(iii) For "C.R Rao National Award in Statistics", the nominee/ applicant should be less than 45 years of age as on 31st December of the financial year in which award is announced.
(iv) Any official and/or his/her family member(s), who was/were part of the selection process of the awardees, will be out of consideration zone of the awards.
Decoration
(i) Citation signed by Hon’ble Minister of Statistics & Programme Implementation.
(ii) Besides above, a Shawl and Memento shall be given to the awardee.
No. of Awardees
(i) One for Sukhatme National Award in Statistics for Life Time Contribution in the Field of Statistics.
(ii) One for C.R Rao National Award in Statistics for Young Statisticians.
(Note: Among the two categories of the National Award in Statistics, only one award shall be conferred each year on an alternate basis.)
Who can nominate ?
(i) The eligible candidates can nominate themselves.
(ii) The names can be proposed by the Institutions.
Selection Process
(i) Primary Scrutiny by Subject Matter Division (SMD), which is Training Unit, CDD, MoSPI. The SMD headed by ADG (CDD) will scrutinize all nominations/applications received as per the award guidelines and prepare draft scoring matrix for screening committee.
(ii) Examination by Screening Committee under the chairmanship of Senior Most Director General, MoSPI.
(iii) External Scrutiny will be done by National Statistical Commission (NSC). The NSC will propose up to three candidates for each of the two award categories.
(iv) Final Selection of the Nominee by Award Committee

Ceremony Details
(i) The award will be presented on the Statistics Day i.e. on 29th June every year, with award in each of the two categories be given in alternate years.
(ii) At this ceremony, citations highlighting the work of the awardee would be read out.
(iii) Awardee may also be requested to take a session highlighting the significance of their work done.
